A meeting on the issue held at the home ministry Wednesday remained inconclusive and all eyes are now on Thursday’s meeting.

As the meetings between RIM officials, security agencies and Canadian High Commission officials failed to address the issue, the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) had asked RIM to set up their servers in India.

An RIM statement said: “RIM operates in more than 130 countries around the world and respects the regulatory requirements of governments. RIM does not comment on confidential regulatory matters or speculates on such matters in any given country.”

BlackBerry services have been under the scanner since last year when an application by Tata Teleservices to roll out the services was rejected citing security reasons.

Security agencies say Blackberry devices allow users to send and receive messages and e-mails without anybody else being able to monitor them, a facility that may be misused by terrorists or other criminals.
