Paris : Arab media in France, speaking through the Arab Press Club, strongly condemned Friday the killing Thursday of Palestinian reporter Fadal Channaa, who died along with a large number of civilians in an Israeli air raid on Gaza.
The Arab Press Club “expresses its indignation” at this killing and the raid which also took the lives of 12 Palestinian civilians.
Channaa, 25, was employed by the Reuters news agency.
“The Arab Press Club cannot but condemn these ceaseless Israeli practices, which respect no international convention currently in place,” a statement from the media association said.
The statement called on all professional organizations, including those that defend journalists, as well as on governments and international organizations to intervene to oblige Israel to halt these practices and respect human life and conventions in place.
Clashes escalated in Gaza over the past two days and Israel has increased its military operations both in scope and violence, leading to an estimated 17 Palestinian deaths, including militants. Three Israel soldiers were also reported to have been killed.
Separately, the French government called on Israel to take steps to ease the pressure on Gaza and find a solution to the blockade of that territory, which is being deprived of basic supplies by Israel.
