Iranian president to visit Pakistan April 28

Islamabad : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will pay a brief visit to Pakistan April 28 for talks with the country’s new leadership, foreign office spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said Thursday.

Sadiq told reporters during the weekly news briefing here that the Iranian president would hold talks with the new government on bilateral matter.

Pakistani media reported that Ahmadinejad, on his way to an official visit to Sri Lanka, will make a three-hour stopover in Pakistan to discuss matters of mutual interest with special focus on energy cooperation between the two countries.

He will meet President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, the News Network International news agency quoted official sources as saying.

The two sides will also discuss the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project, the sources said.

Ahmadinejad would condole the death of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto with Pakistani leaders and express Iranian support for the new Pakistani government, the sources said.
