Turkish air force had shelled locations in northern Iraq on April 16 for the same reason.

In February, the Turkish Army had waged a large scale military operation in northern Iraq in which it eliminated 240 PKK operatives.

The Turkish-PKK conflict in the area has been ongoing for some 25 years and more than 40,000 people have been killed during this time.
