Abu Dhabi : The Ministry of Justice of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has started translating the country’s federal laws written in the official language of Arabic into English for the convenience of expatriates living in the country.
Quoting a local newspaper, China’s XINHUA news agency reported Saturday that the translating the UAE federal laws into English has become an urgent need, particulary since there are expatriates of more than 200 nationalities speaking various languages in the country, said acting Undersecretary of the Justice Minister Ali Ibrahim Al Houssani.
A total of 681 federal laws will be translated into English, which is part of a project of the UAE government to help the foreign communities.
The English version of the laws, including civil, criminal, personal and commercial laws, will be posted on the ministry’s website, Houssani said.
The UAE has a total population of 4.1 million, of which 78.1 percent are expatriates, according to official figures.
