Lucknow : About 25 million mobile phone subscribers in Uttar Pradesh have received an SMS from the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) Vikram Singh urging them to assist the police in fighting terror, an official said Friday.
The state police chief’s message was sent Thursday evening to mobile phone subscribers of the state through SMS, requesting their cooperation to fight anti-social and anti-national elements, an official said Friday.
“Be vigilant towards any unattended object, vehicles and suspicious activities around you. In case of an emergency, call 100 or your nearest police station,” Singh requested in his SMS.
The SMSes were sent to BSNL, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance, Tata Indicom and Airtel subscribers.
“The initiative was taken to seek the assistance of the people in maintaining a safe environment in the state, specially after the serial bomb blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad,” Rajesh Sahni, the DGP’s staff officer, told IANS on phone.
