Russia Aids Ukrainian Flood Victims

Moscow : Russia”s Emergency Ministry sent on Friday humanitarian relief to the victims of the worst floods in Ukraine in 100 years, which caused 30 fatalities and 20,000 evacuees.

The Ministry said an Il-76 ferried 40 tons of food and drinkable water to Lvov, hit by the disaster along with western Vinin, Ivano-Frankovsk, Ternopol, Zakarpatia, and Chernovitz.

Twenty-four trucks will deliver relief to those areas and Moldova, which was also affected by floods after five days of contant rain the past week.

They are to reach destination on Monday, with 105 tons of load, including generators, welding technology, saws, tents, water pumps, and other goods.

Ukrainian Minister for Emergency Situations Vladimir Sandra said 47 million people live at the disaster area, where 40,601 houses remain under water, 20 feet high at some stretches along Dniester River.

The floodings have destroyed over 145,792,186 acres of arable land, 360 road bridges, 561 pedestrian overpasses and 423 miles of urban roads.
