Harare : The Zimbabwe government and opposition parties will resume Sunday the talks halted last Tuesday in South Africa with mediation of President Thabo Mbeki.
After a short visit to Harare, Mbeki said the talks show some progress despite divergence and some matters need consultation.
But other sources say the talks between the government Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) and opposition Movement for a Democratic Change (MDC) are stranded.
Mbeki, who met with MDC Leader Morgan Tsvangirai as mediator of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), announced a meeting with Arthur Mutambara, leader of a MDC minority group.
Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe says ZANU-PF pledged to negotiate with the opposition:” We want to succeed but negotiations are negotiations and each party tries to defend its views and accept terms hard to achieve.”
