Lebanon Drafts State Policy

By Prensa Latina,

Beirut : Lebanon may run a more coherent, united government with the unanimous approval of a draft state policy package submitted to Parliament.

The cabinet approved the project drafted by a ministerial committee made up of Ministers Ibrahim Najjar (Justice); Elie Marouni (Tourism); Antoine Karam (Environment); and Nassib Lahoud (State).

Although they approve of general involvement in national defense they wish to add to Paragraph 24 “realization under state leadership”.

They specially reject Israel occupation of farms at Shebaa, Kafar Shuba Hills and the Lebanese sector of Ghajar but want to limit the military powers of Hizballah and its double condition as political group.

President Michel Suleiman says the package outlines state role and prerogatives which the resistance must reinforce.

Information Minister Tarek Mitri said at Baabda Presidential Palace that objections will be addressed at a national dialogue Suleiman will precede.
