Agra : Around six security personnel of the brother of Bahujan Samaj Party leader and Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister Ramvir Upadhyaya were suspended Friday after opposition parties demanded action against them for allegedly roughing up some people.
The protesters shouted slogans and held a sit in at the Hari Parbat police station here.
On Thursday evening, Agra resident Aveg Mittal and his mother were allegedly roughed up and beaten by the security staff of the BSP leader, who also heads the state Bridge Corporation. Aveg and his family members later lodged a complaint with the police but no action was taken.
Samajwadi Party workers and Bharatiya Janata Party activists Friday protested at the police station forcing the senior police officials to suspend the six security men. A First Information Report has been registered against them, Superintendent of Police city, B.P. Ashok said.
Samajwadi party workers also torched an effigy of the police.
The minister and his brother have so far refused to comment on the incident.
Aveg told mediapersons that while returning from a garment showroom on his mobike, his vehicle was hit by an Ambassador car belonging to the BSP leader. When he protested, the security guards beat him up with rifle butts.
