Strong quake rocks Japan’s eastern seaboard

Hong Kong : A strong earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale Saturday jolted the eastern Japanese coast of Honshu, the Hong Kong Observatory reported.

The quake occurred at 10.35 GMT Saturday.

The epicentre was initially determined by the Hong Kong Observatory to be at 36.6 degrees north latitude and 142.4 degrees east longitude, some 230 km southeast of Sendai, Japan.

There were no immediate reports of casualty, the Observatory said in its evening bulletin.
