New Delhi : A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team has brought here Captain Raghuvir Singh Virk, a proclaimed offender wanted in a criminal case, the agency said Tuesday.
The accused was arrested Oct 23 on the basis of a Red Corner notice while he was crossing the border from Canada to the US and was detained in Montana.
“The team went to the US last week. The Interpol notice was issued against him for his involvement in cases of forgery, counterfeiting and fraud in India,” a CBI official said.
A case was registered against him and others on the basis of a complaint by B.M. Lal, general manager (Northern Region) of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
During 1978-1980, Virk along with others pilfered about 10,000 LPG cylinders of IOC. Two charge sheets have already been filed in court in this case and the trial was on.
But Virk fled the country and went to Seattle, the US, where he stayed for several years and then went to Canada. He obtained Canadian citizenship and had been living in Canada with his wife and son, the agency said.
