New Delhi: Delhi Police’ Special Cell chief Karnal Singh who was probing the September 13 Delhi serial blasts and under whose guidance the Batla House encounter took place on September 19 was yesterday relieved of the post.
He has been assigned the full task of Joint Commissioner of Northern Range which comprises North-West and Outer districts. He was looking the range additionally besides being Special Cell chief. A 1984-batch IPS officer Singh has been handling the Special Cell since 2003.
P N Aggarwal, presently Joint Commissioner of Training of Delhi Police, will succeed him as new chief of the Special Cell.
In the encounter at Batla House two suspected terrorists were killed and a Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma had got bullet injuries which he later succumbed to in the evening on the same day. Locals and several human rights organizations had strongly contested the police version of the encounter and demanded the judicial enquiry.
The government did not accept the demand but the latest move of shifting the Special Cell chief may be seen as a step to pacify those people as the Delhi state election is over and preparation for general election has begun.
