ISLAMABAD, Dec 26 (KUNA) — Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Friday called his Pakistani counterpart, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and held discussion on Indo-Pak tension in the aftermath of Mumbai attacks.
Discussing the present situation in South Asia, Foreign Minister Qureshi underlined the need for India to pursue a policy of restraint and responsibility, said a foreign office statement.
Pakistan was in full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1267 and that it was ready to conduct a joint investigation with India into the Mumbai incident, provided relevant evidence was furnished, he said.
The Chinese Foreign Minister hoped that Pakistan and India would work together to combat terrorism.
He called for peace and stability in South Asia emphasizing that escalation of tensions was not in the interest of either India or Pakistan.
He assured that China would remain in close contact with Pakistan in the pursuance of peace and stability in the region.
