One new gallery on the art of the Islamic world opened last February. In a hall of 750 square meters, 340 pieces of Islamic art reflecting the breadth of inspiration and creativity of the Islamic lands, from Spain in the West to India in the East. are on display.

Examples of exhibits stretch from the 7th to the 17th century of the Christian era.
The collections include manuscripts of the holy Quran, calligraphy, wall paintings, glass and metal artifacts, swords, clothes and armour.
At the entrance of the well-planned gallery, one sees a part of a wooden door from a mosque in northeast Pakistan.

An explanatory note in French and Dutch gives information about each exhibit on display, while some exhibits are also explained in English and German.
A video screen gives good background information about the history of the Muslim world in four languages. (end) nk.ema
