New Delhi : Like Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist Dalits, Dalit Muslims should also be given reservations. Muslim backward classes as a whole should be given 9% reservation out of the 27% reservation allocated to all backward classes. The Muslim Reservation Movement (MRM) will stage a dharna (sit-in) in support of these demands during the budget session of the Parliament. MRM will also try to become a party in the petition on reservation filed by Christians. This decision was taken by MRM in a meeting held at the residence of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman Barq, Member of Parliament from Samajwadi Party.
Talking to mediapersons, MRM leaders said discrimination on the ground of religion while extending reservation to Dalit Muslims should be ended. That Muslims desperately need reservation has been affirmed by Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission.
They denied that such movement will instill a sense of casteism and fractions within the Muslim community.
