Kabul : The US-led coalition troops said Saturday they had killed “several insurgents” during an operation in southern Afghanistan.
A statement from the coalition’s Bagram base said the militants were eliminated while the troops were operating to dismantle weapons facilitation network in the province of Uruzgan.
The troops clashed with militants while searching a compound in Deh Rawod district. Several insurgents were killed in the operation, said the statement, which did not mention the exact number.
Afghan officials say they do not know about the operation. Taliban militants have not commented on this so far.
After securing the area, the troops found numerous small weapons, rocket-propelled grenades, launchers as well as an improvised-explosive device. All the seized weapons were destroyed on the spot, said the statement.
