In a statement, the MNF said four soldiers were killed when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device while they were conducting a combat patrol northwest of Baghdad Friday.

Another statement said a soldier was also killed Friday as a result of injuries sustained from an explosion near his vehicle while conducting operations in Tamim Province.

Three soldiers were also wounded and transported to a coalition forces medical facility for treatment, it added.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending next of kin notification and release by the Department of Defense.

With this, the number of US soldiers killed since the beginning of the war in Iraq in March 2003 stands at 3,957 of which 13 were killed this month alone.
