Gaza : Calls increased in Israel for waging a wide-scale land operation against Palestinian factions in Gaza Strip in response to the missiles that were being launched from there at the southern areas of the Jewish state.
These calls coincided with a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, and Army Commander Gabi Ashkenazi this morning, to discuss the continued Palestinian missile attacks which led to injuries among Israelis last night.
“General Ashkenazi issued orders to the army to prepare for a wide-scale land operation in the Strip, and approval of the political leadership is awaited,” said Radio Israel.
Meanwhile, Olmert said the Jewish state was doing all it could to root out those behind the attacks.
Olmert was quoted by the radio as saying that anger felt by residents of the southern areas was “understandable and natural, but what is needed is systematic and organized action over time.”
