Madrid : Ninety-six Spanish political organizations will present deputy candidates and 108 will have senatorial candidates in the March 9 general elections in Spain.
The total list of candidates was published Tuesday in the Official Bulletin, when definite decisions of the electoral boards were known.
A total of 40 proposals were rejected, including by the Basque Nationalist Action Party (PANV), which participation in the elections was banned last week by National Court Judge Baltasar Garzon.
The campaign will officially start February 22, with a day of reflection (no campaigning) on March 8, and the following day almost 35 million Spaniards will be able to go to the ballot boxes.
In the March 2004 elections, the Spanish Socialist Working Party (PSOE) of Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero was the winner, with 3.9 points over the Popular Party (PP).
