Moscow : Georgian opposition leader Badri Patarkatsishvil passed away Tuesday night from a heart attack in London, said Russian television on Wednesday.
Patarkatsishvil, 52, was also a businessman who ran against Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili in the last presidential race in January and earned seven percent of overall vote.
As he was accused of staging a coup, Georgian authorities banned Patarkatsishvil from entering its territories. He eventually ran his campaign from London.
Patarkatsishvil also played a key role in last November’s Georgian opposition protests which caused violent riots leading to state of emergency.
