West Bengal govt. to open minority offices

Kolkata: The implementation of West Bengal government’s development schemes for Muslims will be carried out by joint offices of the Madrasa Education and Minority Development department. These offices will be opened in 12 Muslim dominated areas of the state.

State minister for minorities’ welfare and development, Abdus Sattar, said the government has decided to start several projects related to welfare and development of minorities, and the decision to open these special offices is meant to ensure the benefits of these projects reach the needy in the minority community.

The minister said development works will be given priority in these areas. Now it will be possible for members of minority community to submit their applications for scholarship and loans in these offices. Attempts are also being made to promote education through Madrasa system and this scheme will expedite the task. He said a special fund has been created to increase the amount of scholarships for Muslim students from rupees 25 lac to rupees 450 lac, as a result of which the number of beneficiaries will increase from 900 to seven thousand.
