St. Valentine visits Kashmir as Cupid’s undercover agent

Srinagar : St. Valentine had once again to operate as Cupid’s undercover agent in Kashmir as the women’s hard line separatist group, Dukhtaran-e-Milat (Daughters of faith), took out rallies in the capital city to protest Valentine’s Day celebrations Thursday.

Scores of activists of Dukhtaran-e-Milat marched through city centre Lal Chowk protesting Valentine’s Day celebrations, labelling it “vulgar, impure and against the Islamic tenets”.

Activists of the group also visited some hotels and restaurants looking for Cupid’s victims to upbraid and educate them about what the group called “immorality of occasions like Valentine’s Day”.

Love’s labours, however, did not go lost as those stricken by Cupid’s arrow exchanged Valentine cards without any fanfare.

“I had some Valentine’s Day cards and those are all sold out. I don’t know who bought them, but it is definitely the younger generation here that shows interest in such cards,” said a bookshop owner who requested anonymity.

“I definitely bought one card for someone I won’t name,” said a college student here.
