Kabul : At least 35 Afghan civilians were killed and around 30 wounded in a suicide car bomb attack on a Candian forces’ convoy in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar on Monday. The attack, the second deadliest in less than two days, was carried out in the border town of Spin Boldak, Kandahar province Governor Asadullah Khalid told journalists. The governor said three Canadian soldiers were also injured in the blast, that was carried out close the border with Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The province of Kandahar, the former stronghold of Taliban militants, was scene to the worst-ever bombing after the ouster of Taliban when some 80 people, gathered to see dog-fighting, were killed as a result of a powerful blast. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the Sunday’s attack. Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Sayed Aqa Saqib told KUNA that the attack was carried out in a market area. He said several shops caught fire after the powerful blast. He said the number of dead, counted by the volunteers, is 35 while some 30 people were shifted to hospital in injured condition.
