Uttar Pradesh police gun down wanted criminal

Ghaziabad : The Uttar Pradesh police in a shootout here Monday gunned down a wanted criminal.

Inspector General of Police V.K. Gupta said Fazil, a resident of Meerut, had 26 criminal cases registered against him and carried a reward of Rs.10,000 on his head.

Acting on a tip-off, the police were checking all vehicles on the upper Ganges canal service road when a motorcyclist sped away, defying the police check post signal to stop. The police team chased the motorcyclist and when he fired at them retaliated.

Fazil died on the spot while his accomplice managed to flee.

According to Gupta, Fazil was accused of many cases of murder, robbery and extortion and was also accused of gunning down a jail warden of the Muzaffar Nagar district jail.
