Mosul (Iraq) : At least 40 people were killed and five injured Tuesday when a suicide bomber travelling along with them in a bus blew himself up in Mosul in northern Iraq’s Nineveh province, the police said.
“A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up in the afternoon inside a passenger bus travelling on the main road near the Tamarat village, some 60 km west of Mosul,” a police official said on condition of anonymity.
The bus, which was totally destroyed in the blast, was travelling from the city of Mosul to neighbouring Syria when the incident took place, the source said.
Nineveh province has been the stronghold of Al Qaeda militants as they were believed to be regrouped in the province after being flushed out from Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces by US and Iraqi troops.
