Deoband: India’s external and internal policies seem to have gone through a sea change in the last 60 years. Today these polices appear guided or at least influenced by the worldwide anti-Islam forces. Ulema expressed this view yesterday at Deoband.

In a declaration adopted at the end of the day-long session that was called to discuss terrorism and its implications for the Muslim society, Ulema condemned anti-Islam and anti-Muslim attitude of Western countries and expressed grief at deviation in India’s policies. While declaring terrorism an anti-Islamic act, the Islamic scholars representing all major schools of Islamic thought condemned anti-Muslim forces, state terrorism and ethnic cleansing in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.

The declaration urged the Indian government to immediately bring to an end the malicious campaign by government agencies against madrasas and Muslims. The meeting was called by Darul Uloom Deoband, South Asia’s most influential Islamic seminary. The programme was attended by more than 10,000 Islamic scholars; prominent among them were Maulana Jalaluddin Umri, Maulana Arshad Madani, Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Salafi, Maulana Mohammad Salim Qasimi, Maulana Mahmood Madani and Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali.
