The 47 year-old Tiyapairaj was elected on January 22 as chief of the House of Representatives from the Assembly General representing the ruling People’s Power Party (PPP).

The legislator, who resigned from his post, was object of investigation for purchasing votes in his native province the northern Chiang Rai where several politicians assured they had received about 600 dollars in bribes to support his candidature.

The PPP, led by Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej won the legislative elections on December 23 by majority, the first since the 2006 attempted coup.

The CET commissioner Somchai Juengpraset told Bangkok Post daily news that the Tiyapairan case will appeal to the Supreme Court, but if confirmed he could be deprived of holding a public post for the next five years.
