Washington : A coalition of progressive groups has kicked off a new campaign that contrasts the invasion and occupation of Iraq with the winds of recession in US economy, the Democracy Now website reported.

According to the organization, the Iraq-Recession campaign is sponsored by “Move On”, “Center for American Progress Action Fund” and “VoteVets”.

As part of the initiative, “VoteVets” has posted on its website the testimony of Iraq war veteran Rose Forrest, who harshly criticizes Republican presidential hopeful John McCain, who favors maintaining US troops in the Arab country.

“John McCain says it’s ok with him if the US spends the next 1,000 years in Iraq,” she said.

“What kind of commitment are you making to him? How about a thousand years of affordable healthcare, or a thousand years of keeping America safe. Could you afford that for my child, Sen. McCain, or have you already agreed to spend trillions in Baghdad?” Forrest added.

On Monday, the Republican hopeful retracted from predicting his defeat in the presidential race unless he convinced voters about the alleged success of US troops in Iraq.

“I didn’t mean that I will lose, I just tried to approach the importance of the issue,” the Arizona senator said.
