Kuala Lumpur : Australia edged past Bangladesh on superior net run-rate afgter a washed out match Thursday and set up a fifth place play-off match against England in the International Cricket Council (ICC) u-19 Cricket World Cup.

Australia was declared winners on the basis of a superior net run-rate throughout the tournament after heavy rain forced their match against Bangladesh to be abandoned.

When the downpour started Australia was on top having bowled Bangladesh out for 115 and had then progressed to 18 without loss after six overs.

Opting to bat, Bangladesh began steadily, scoring 51 for 1, but could not carry on as the Australian bowlers ran though their middle-order to bundle them out for a paltry 115. At one stage Bangladesh was 87 for 3.

For Australia, Clive Rose (2-18), David King (2-17) and Josh Hazelwood (2-34) were the pick of the bowlers.

However, for the first time in the tournament the weather god played spoilsport as not long after Australia’s opening duo had started, the rain started.

The big match here at Kinrara Oval Friday is the second Super League semi-final between South Africa and Pakistan. The winner will take on India in Sunday’s final.
