Harikrishna draws fifth round, drops half point behind leaders

Reggio Emilio : Pentala Harikrishna drew his fifth round with Vugar Gashimov of Azerbaijan and dropped half a point behind the leaders, Zoltan Almasi and Konstantin Landa in the 50th Reggio Emilio Grandmasters chess tournament Wednesday.

The Indian Grandmaster, who was among the four co-leaders drew with Gashimov in 53 moves as the game ended with opposite colours bishops besides equal number of pawns and a rook and queen each.

In the only two decisive games, David Narra who lost to Harikrishna in fourth round, bounced back to beat veteran Swiss player, Viktor Korchnoi, while Almasi beat Mihail Marin.

The other games were drawn.
