Police officials Wednesday reviewed the security arrangements at the Kanpur airport, the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Panki Power House and the widely known J.K. Temple in the city.

Inspector General of Police, Kanpur zone, S.N. Singh said that additional measures were being taken to make the security foolproof around these places.

The IIT, Kanpur airport and the Panki Power House have been receiving terrorist threats through e-mails and letters for the past one year.

Nearly two years ago, the police had arrested a former HAL employee, Haroon Rasheed, for his alleged links with the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Rasheed had slipped away to Singapore in 2004 and was nabbed by intelligence sleuths at the Delhi airport in 2005.

HAL-Kanpur is among the top defence installations in the country and manufactures aircrafts for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
