Sydney : Left-arm pacer Rudra Pratap Singh said that bowling to a specific plan against each batsman helped India to peg back Australia early in the first innings on the first day of the second Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
“Today, we had specific plans for specific batsmen. The pitch was also assisting the bowlers and it had more bounce and pace than Melbourne,” said Singh, who picked up four for 108 and had reduced the Australians to 134 for six at one stage.
Singh was spearheading the Indian fast bowling attack in the absence of an experienced Zaheer Khan, who was ruled out due to a sore ankle. Young Delhi pacer Ishant Sharma replaced Zaheer.
“I was really disappointed that Zaheer did not play here. His absence put additional responsibility on me as I had to lead the pace bowling department,” Singh said after the end of first day’s play.
He added that the wicket would become good for batting.
“The wicket slowed down later in the day and will become good for batting as the match progresses,” Singh said.
