Baghdad : At least 20 persons died and over ten were wounded in violent incidents the last few hours in Iraq, security sources reported.
The first incident occurred in Baquoba, Diyala province, when a woman laden with explosives went off at the passport office, taking the lives of ten persons and wounding 8 others, said Captain Mohammad Rghu.
According to the source, the attack was targeting the chief of the Awakening Committee, Abu Sedjad, a national group supporting the government and the foreign occupation troops in their fight against the resistance.
Attacks against that group were intensified last month, mainly in Diyala province, which is considered a stronghold of the insurgency.
Also, early Wednesday, four persons were shot dead by gunmen who broke into a house in a locality in the southern region of Kut, south of the Iraqi capital, said police.
Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported two brothers, an Iraqi soldier, and a police agent among the dead.
Police sources also reported a suicide bomb attack in near a hospital in Baquoba city, leaving six dead and 22 wounded.
