Ranchi : The vigilance department of the Jharkhand government has indicted a former vice-chancellor (VC) of Siddhu and Kanhu University for alleged financial irregularities.
The department filed an enquiry report on the issue last week and has sought permission from the state’s legal department file a case against former VC Fatikchandra Hembrom and two other university officials.
According to sources, the university had been granted Rs.10 million by the state government for construction of a building five years ago.
Hembrom, however, paid a huge part of the funds to a consultancy firm, alleged the university employees, following which the state government asked the vigilance department in 2003 to probe the matter.
“The former VC paid Rs.8 million to a firm as consultancy fees out of the Rs.10 million sanctioned for construction of a university building,” said a vigilance department official.
The department has sought the advice of the states Advocate General S.B Gadodia in the matter of filing a case against Hembrom, who was also the first chairperson of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission.
