London, Jan 5, IRNA ,The British government’s controversial plans to build 20 new nuclear reactors is likely to remain in doubt for months with a fresh legal challenge having over the decision, which is expected to be announced next week.
Greenpeace said it could take several months to decide whether to return to the High Court after winning a legal challenge last February that ordered the government to carry out a second round of consultations about its review to fill the UK’s growing energy gap.
The government is expected to use the results of its latest onsultations to press ahead with a new generation of nuclear power stations by presenting a new energy bill to parliament.
Greenpeace won support in its campaign to prevent the replacement of the country’s ageing reactors from a group of scientists and academics, which on Friday warned that risks from radiation, the disposal of nuclear waste and vulnerability to a terrorist attack have not been addressed.
But according to the Financial Times Saturday, the environmentalist group is saying that it would not immediately oppose the announcement of a go-ahead by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
A dossier from Greenpeace is already seeking to highlight several possible flaws in the consultation process after the first process as legally judged to have been serious flawed.
