Pristina : President Fatmir Sejdu of Kosovo said that Macedonia as well would have to be divided among its Albanian and Serbian communities, should Kosovo be divided along the same lines.

Fatmir, who was speaking to the press after attending the first legislative session in Pristina, said the division of Kosovo would pave the way for the corresponding division of neighboring districts, namely those of Macedonia and Montenegro.

“If the international community allows Kosovo to be divided along ethnic lines, this would let the genie out of the box and things will not just end at Kosovo. But there will tremendous repercussions,” he said.

He said he still found it hard to believe that such a proposal could come from Serbia, bearing in mind that Pristina had already rejected such ideas.

He added that when he spoke of stability in the area, he meant first and foremost stability in the Republic of Macedonia followed by stability in neighboring areas.

He said he still had trouble believing that the United Nations approved any plan to partition Kosovo.
