GCC health ministers meet Tuesday on boosting cooperation

Riyadh : The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Health Ministers’ Council will hold its 64th regular session in Riyadh on Tuesday to discuss means of boosting health cooperation among the member states.

The council will discuss a detailed report on the activities of its Executive Bureau and its achievements during the past session, Executive Bureau Director General, Dr. Tawfiq Khoja, said in a statement here on Sunday.

He added that the meeting would also follow up on implementation of decisions and recommendations made during the 63rd session. Latest scientific developments for promoting the health services in the six-member bloc will also feature high on the Riyadh meeting agenda.
During their two-day event, the GCC ministers will also address occupational health, combating diabetes and heart diseases, the GCC draft project on heart health and the UAE initiative for health utilities friendly to patients’ safety, Khoja added.

Other important topics to be covered by the meeting include initial health care, bird flu, epidemic monitoring and the issue of the nursing specializations in the member states.

They will also discuss topics related to medications, medical equipment, the central drug registration system and the continuous medical education.
