Gaza : Advancing under cover of a hail of gunfire, heavily-armed Israeli military forces carried out an incursion into eastern fringes of the Palestinian shanty town of Al-Bureij in the center of Gaza Strip on Sunday.
Witnesses told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) the troops, equipped with tanks, military vehicles and bulldozers, reached locations around the refugee camp after advancing from nearby positions, with gunship helicopters roaring over the advancing force.
Immediately upon reaching the camp vicinity, the troops bulldozed cultivated fields, while elite personnel burst into several hilltop houses, suspected of being used as nests by Palestinian snipers.
According to an initial report by medical sources, one Palestinian was wounded with Israeli gunfire during the operation, and had to be hospitalized.
Izz-Eddine Al-Qassam Brigades, military wing of Hamas movement, said its fighters were taking part in the resistance of the assaulting force. The guerrillas targeted an Israeli bulldozer with rocket-propelled grandes (RPGs), it said in a statement. Earlier, Israeli gunship helicopters raided Palestinian targets in Gaza Strip, killing one guerrilla and wounding several others, security and medical sources said.
