He told reporters during his weekly briefing that the authorities had expelled the diplomat after they found that “the German national was involved in undiplomatic activities”, official IRNA news agency reported Sunday.

However, Hosseini refused to give details about the expulsion. He didn’t also say whether the diplomat has already left the country.

Saturday, a German foreign ministry spokeswoman said that she could only “confirm that a German diplomat has left Iran,” but declined to elaborate.

According to German media reports, Berlin had expelled an Iranian diplomat last month for his alleged contact with a specialist of a firm in Bavaria region.

The Iranian was suspected of trying to obtain from that firm a component which could be used in uranium enrichment process in his country.
