Satyapragyan tied ninth at Hastings chess

Hastings (England) : Swayang Satyapragyan and Deep Sengupta recorded wins in the ninth round of the Hastings Congress chess tournament to move up the ladder, while the third Indian player in the field, Saptarishi Roy Chowdhury lost his ninth round.

Satyapragyan (2404) outplayed lowly rated England’s Peter Poobalasingam (2158), while Deep Sengupta (2447) defeated Frenchman Vincent Heinis (2202) in another match. Satyapragyan now six points and lied tied ninth, while Deep has 5.5 points, the same as Roy Chowdhury (2418) who lost to England’s Gawain Jones (2567).

The lead at seven points each is shared by Azerbaijan’s Nidjat Mamedov (2565) and Vadim Malakhatko (2596). Mamedov drew with Bulgaria’s Bor Chatalbashev (2581) and Russian-born Belgian Malakhatko (2596) beat Serbia’s Milos Pavlovic (2536). The two leaders will clash in the tenth and final round.

In the tenth round, Satyapragyan has white pieces against German GM Falko Bindrich 2512, while Deep Sengupta has black pieces against Bangladeshi Aminul Islam (2390) and Roy Chowdhury clashes with England’s Jack Rudd (2332).
