Dubai : The EMAAR-MGF, which becomes the first co-sanctioned event between Asian and European Tours to be played in India, is hoping to become an Indian tradition, according to the promoters.
The event, which hopes to play a major role in driving Indian professional golf forward, will be held at the Delhi Golf Club from Feb 7 to 10 and carry a purse of $2.5 million.
Jeev Mikha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa, Arjun Atwal, Rahil Gangjee and Gaurav Ghei will be among the top stars from India in the field.
“It is the birth of what we are optimistic will become an Indian tradition,” stated Mohamed Juma Buamaim, Vice-Chairman and CEO of tournament organisers ‘Golf in Dubai’.
“We have some exciting announcements on the horizon in the lead-up to the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters, both with players that we have now confirmed, and ‘grow the game’ initiatives in support of the Indian Golf Union’s Junior Golf Programme through our Shaikh Makhtoum Golf Foundation.”
EMAAR-MGF was equally excited about the tournament and the importance of leading by example.
“Our golf properties will witness EMAAR-MGF playing a defining role in making India a leading golfing destination worldwide. The EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters is a step toward this commitment to foster encouragement and passion for this great game,” stated the firm’s Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Shravan Gupta.
Golf in Dubai, in cooperation with the three professional tours – European Tour, Asian Tour and Professional Golf Tour of India – is hoping to bring the best players in the game together to celebrate Indian golf.
