Chopra in danger of missing cut at Bob Hope Classic

Palm Desert (California) : Daniel Chopra, winner of the opening event on the PGA Tour this season, is in danger of missing the cut in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Chopra, who won the Mercedes Benz Championships, shot 73 and 74 in the first two rounds and was lying way behind in tied 122nd place in the 128-man field.

D.J. Trahan (67-64) and Robert Gamez (65-66), both from US, were tied for lead at 13-under 131. One shot behind them was Justin Leonard (68-64) at 12-under 132.

Asia’s best was Korea’s Charlie Wi who moved into reckoning when he fired his second straight four-under-par 68 in the USPGA Tour event. He posted five birdies and one eagle on the card but dropped three bogeys en route to tie for 11th place in the five-round tournament. He trails leaders DJ Trahan and Robert Gamez by five shots.

Compatriot Yang Yong-eun, playing in his rookie season in the US, shot a 70 for tied 56th place while another Korean Jin Park, best remembered for finishing fourth in the Barclays Singapore Open last November, returned a 74 to slip to 88th position.

The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic is a five-day 90-hole event, where professionals are paired alongside celebrities.
