Trescothick set to make a comeback

London : Forgotten England opener Marcus Trescothick is looking fitter and all geared up to resume an accomplished Test career that got halted by recurrence of his stress related illness, during Ashes series last winter.

The 32-year-old left-hand batsman is not certain when he will make a new start in the international cricket but reflects a palpable enthusiasm for resuming playing cricket in the spring after a winter of training that has included boxing against a punchbag, reports The Times.

Trescothick is now playing for Somerset after his contract with the England cricket board ended in September and will go on a tour for the first time since returning from Australia, to Abu Dhabi with Somerset, albeit to play against other English counties.

Trescothick spoke Thursday of his hope to play cricket till he is 40 and of coaching somerset after he retires.

“I want to have a crack at coaching Somerset, but, if I do, I realise that is not guaranteed forever and that, by staying in Taunton, I am restricted to coaching here or at Bristol,” the cricketer who is expecting his second child was quoted as saying.
