Harare : South African President Thabo Mbeki Friday expressed optimism for a possible solution to the current political crisis in Zimbabwe.
Mbeki made those statements after meeting with Head of State Robert Mugabe and members of the opposition Movement for the Democratic Change (MDC).
ó We presented a separate report to President Mugabe and the MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangerai, on the point we currently are in in the mediation process, ó said the visitor in a press conference.
The efforts of the South African President are part of an entrustment of the Community for the Development of Southern African countries.
For about a year, Mbeki has been trying to mediate between the two parties to put an end to a political and economic crisis in Zimbadwe and open a way to elections.
The disagreement between the government and the opposition lies on the date for holding general and presidential elections.
