Talks also dealt with the means of activating mutual activities and expanding the scope of cooperation between the two sides.

Dr Al-Twaijri commended the historical role of Syria in spreading Arab and Islamic culture throughout history, noting that the Syrian city of Aleppo was chosen as the Capital of Islamic Culture 2007 and Damascus as the Capital of Arab Culture 2008.

Al-Assad, in 2006, granted Dr Al-Twaijri the Syrian Order of Merit of Excellent degree in appreciation of the organization’s role in promoting Arab culture, education and sciences.

In a statement to SANA following the meeting, Al-Twaijri thanked Syria and Al-Assad for supporting the organization, saying “I was honoured today by meeting President Al-Assad who stressed the importance of the Islamic work integration and broadening prospects of cooperation between Syria and the organization.”

“ISESCO is participating in the festivity of Damascus — the capital of Arab culture because Damascus has a great impact on the Islamic world,” he added.
