Madrid : Argentinian striker Lautaro Cost compared himself with some of the best young players his country has produced at his official presentation as a new player with Spanish Primera Liga side Sevilla.
Cost joined Sevilla from Argentinian club Lanus in a move worth 7.5 million euros, but he promised that the money was well spent.
“I have heard a lot of people compare me with Messi and Aguero, but I am simply Lautero Cost. I have my own style and I think you can see that on the pitch,” he said.
“Comparisons are not always a good thing and I am a different type of player, neither better nor worse,” said Cost at his presentation in Sevilla’s Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.
The 20-year-old player will form part of the Argentina squad that will take part in the Beijing Olympic Games and he thinks he is as good as the two current stars of the Argentine game – Barcelona’s Leo Messi and Atletico Madrid player Kun Aguero.
The youngster will have to fight for his first team place against players of the category of Mali international Frederic Kanoute and Brazilian Luis Fabiano, who ended last season with 24 league goals, but he is not worried about the challenge, instead he believes it will be a help.
“I have known there were great players at the club since I have arrived here, I spoke to the club’s Director of Sport and he told me there was good competition for places. That will help me to do well and to know that I have to play good football to get a game,” said Cost, aware he had to justify his high price tag.
“The money that has been spent on me has come out of Sevilla’s bank account and I am going to show what I am worth out on the pitch,” he added.
The striker also spoke about the Olympic Games, saying that although he would need time to adapt to his new club, he was also looking forward to Beijing.
“At Sevilla they say it is best for me and for my national team to go there. I will have two weeks here before going to China and I will make a huge effort,” he said.
