Divers recover bodies of four more Greyhounds commandos

By IANS,

Bhubaneswar : Indian Navy divers Saturday recovered the bodies of four more personnel of Andhra Pradesh police’s elite Greyhounds force killed after Maoist guerillas ambushed their motorboat in the Balimela reservoir in Orissa June 29, police said.

With this, the number of bodies retrieved during the last six days rose to 22, but the bodies of 11 personnel are still feared trapped in the sunken motorboat, Malkangiri district superintendent of police Satish Gajbhiye told IANS.

“The missing bodies could be trapped in the boat’s cabin which is laying about 40 feet deep water,” he said. The Maoist ambush left 38 security personnel missing.

The Maoists attacked a ferry carrying Andhra Pradesh police’s elite anti-Maoist force when they were returning from neighbouring Orissa after assisting the police there to crack down on the rebels. The majority of the bodies were recovered from the sunken boat.
