The Turkish army said in its website Monday that PKK members in the Hakkari area near the Iraq-Turkish borders were targeted by the jets. No further information was released about the operations.

Since mid-September, Turkish fighter jets bombarded several locations for the PKK in northern Iraq where thousands of party members used the area as a stronghold, according to Istanbul.

The land operation against the PKK in northern Iraq also increased last February.

About 40,000 people have been killed in tit-for-tat attacks involving the Turkish regular forces and the PKK since 1984.

The PKK seeks to establish an independent Kurdish entity in southeast Turkey. The US and EU list the PKK as a terrorist group.
