Haryana governor wants memorials to freedom fighters

Chandigarh : Village-wise lists of martyrs from Haryana who fought in the country’s first battle of independence in 1857 and in the national freedom struggle should be prepared and displayed on plaques in parks or public places, said Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai Tuesday.

The governor was speaking at a book release at Haryana Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh where three books “The Roll of Honour: Haryana’s Martyrs of 1857”, “Sir Chhotu Ram: The Last Days” and “Sh. Matu Ram: A Biography”, edited, compiled and written by historian K.C. Yadav were released.

Monuments in the memory of martyrs should be constructed in their villages to inspire the young generation with their brave deeds in the service of the nation, Kidwai said.
